One of the most remote of all the proposed wilderness areas, Cheat Mountain contains the state�s largest unbroken stand of Red Spruce. Special features of the area include the High Falls of the Cheat which is a major waterfall and favorite destination for hikers and excursion train visitors. The sound of the river below, in one of its steepest, most boulder-strewn stretches, adds to the visitor�s experience along the Shavers Fork of Cheat, the highest river of its size in the eastern U.S.
