Wilderness guru Doug Scott
Author, Historian, Advocate

Several years ago, in the earlier stages of the Wild Mon campaign, West Virginia was treated to a series of discussions and presentations by Doug Scott, renowned author and one of the foremost experts on Wilderness policy in the U.S.
Now, with his latest book, Our Wilderness, hot off the press, Doug returns to the Mountain State for a special event at the WVU College of Law in Morgantown, as well as Sierra Fest near Charleston, hosted by the West Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club.  Doug will speak about citizen efforts to protect public lands through the National Wilderness Preservation System, and he will share passages from his new book.

Doug Scott, Policy Director of the Campaign for America’s Wilderness, is one of the nation’s leading wilderness historians and experts on the U.S. wilderness movement.  He has been involved in the passage of most major wilderness protection laws in the last 40 years, including the Eastern Wilderness Areas Act (1975), Endangered American Wilderness Act (1978),
Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (1980), and the newest - the Omnibus Public Land Management Act (2009) - which protected more than two million acres across nine states. He helped shape strategy and led campaigns at The Wilderness Society and the Sierra Club (where he served as national Conservation Director and Associate Executive Director).
