The
proposed East Fork of Greenbrier would permanently protect important headwaters
of the Greenbrier River which is depended upon as a source of drinking water by
downstream communities. This area is known for its excellent trout fishing,
whitewater paddling, hunting and hiking opportunities. The area is home to the
federally endangered West Virginia Northern Flying Squirrel and the Candy
Darter. Remote and wild in character, the proposed East Fork of Greenbrier
wilderness is a quiet, peaceful place, with excellent opportunities for
primitive and unconfined recreation. Without Wilderness protection this area
will continue to be threatened by commercial logging and roadbuilding.
