Dear Friend of West Virginia's Wild Places,

Over the past few years, representatives from the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy, The Wilderness Society and the West Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club have been planning a campaign to protect West Virginia ’s unprotected wild federal lands. These groups and their representatives form the core of the West Virginia Wilderness Coalition. We feel that the time is right to vigorously pursue securing permanent protection for these areas through inclusion in the National Wilderness Preservation System, as has been done for WV’s current Wilderness Areas (Dolly Sods, Otter Creek, Cranberry, Laurel Fork, and Mountain Lake ).

We need your help and support to make additional Wilderness in West Virginia a reality! The Coalition would very much appreciate your endorsement and would be honored if you would join in our efforts. We would like to meet and address your board, staff and/or membership as soon as possible to give them more information on Wilderness and the West Virginia Wilderness campaign. Please let us know when this would be possible. We can also give a presentation on WV Wilderness that might be appropriate if you have program meetings.

It is now time to build additional grassroots support, and show public land managers and elected officials that West Virginians want their best remaining wild places protected as Wilderness. Wild lands are a very important part of West Virginia heritage and surveys show that thousands of residents across the state and region want to see them protected. We need to mobilize this support and make it visible to our elected officials.

Thank you! With your support, we will succeed in designating West Virginia ’s unprotected wild lands as wilderness. Please fill out the contact form below if you wish to support our work. Please contact us with any questions, comments or concerns you may have.

ORGANIZATION CONTACT FORM

YES!  Count on our support and use our name for the West Virginia Wilderness Coalition’s efforts to achieve wilderness designation for unprotected wild places on the federal, public lands of West Virginia .  These lands contain outstanding wilderness qualities increasingly scarce in the Eastern U.S. , and protection of the areas to be proposed would add needed West Virginia acreage to the National Wilderness Preservation System.
